Marilou McFarlane

With 14+ years in the sports tech industry, Marilou is a visionary startup leader and accomplished entrepreneur, specializing in expansive startup growth, building high performance teams and driving impact. She leads the work that is diversifying the sports tech industry, by partnering with iconic brands, businesses and entrepreneurs. Having led numerous venture-backed startups to success, she is a passionate advocate, advisor and mentor to sports tech leaders, founders, students and women eager to enter the industry.

Marilou is the CEO+founder of Women in Sports Tech (WiST), the non-profit organization offering proven strategies and programs for employers in the $42B sports tech industry to diversify talent pipelines and create more inclusive cultures. To date, WiST has provided over 100 summer internship experiences to college, grad and PhD students through their flagship WiST Fellowship program, and built an active community of over 100,000 executives and students in the exploding sports tech industry. WiST works with numerous corporate partners, including GameChanger, IBM Sports, Stats Perform, Comcast NBCU, Warner Brothers Discovery and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

A former University of North Carolina Division 1 cross-country athlete and 3:06 marathon runner, Marilou is the proud mother of two daughters who were UNC soccer players and played professionally in the NWSL and in Europe. Kelly is now an orthopedic surgery resident at Stanford and Darcy works on women’s running at Nike and was recently honored with Forbes 30 Under 30. Marilou lives with her fire captain husband of 30+ years and sweet dog Pearl in Mill Valley, California.
