Gabriel Merkin

A native and lifelong New Yorker, Gabriel found his passion for film as an undergraduate at Columbia University where he received degrees in both film and business. He is the co-founder of Red Apple Productions where he and his partner Jack Liechtung manage and lead all facets of the storytelling process from development and writing through production and distribution. Red Apple’s most recent film, The Spoils: Selling the Future of American Basketball presents a cross-section of some of Gabriel’s greatest passions — storytelling and basketball. Like other projects Gabriel has led, this film reflects a reality of life that he engages with every day: how sport, artistry and science intersect with business and capitalism. During his time at Columbia, Gabriel began working as a Producer for Dan Klores with whom he has continued to tell stories across a variety of media for a decade. Gabriel’s additional career stops include production and distribution roles at Shoot the Moon and Narrative. Alongside his career as a filmmaker, Gabriel leads venture investment firms Corner3 Ventures, KT² Ventures, and is responsible for the investment portfolio within a private family office. When away from the screen, Gabriel sneaks out to hit the slopes and can be found shooting hoops in the closest gym or park. He lives in New York City with his wife and daughter
